Library Selection Cabernet Sauvignon
Our Library Selection Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of grapes from hillside and valley floor sections of our two southern Napa Valley estate vineyards. Planted in very dry, rocky soils, the hillside vines yield wines with intense, spicy fruit aromas and flavors, while the valley floor vines, in richer, alluvial soils, produce wines with bright fruit and a velvety texture.

The Wine
Crafted from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot, with continually unfolding layers of complexity. The wine is rich in the nose with red berry-cherry fruit and enticing cedar cigar box aromas. The hillside fruit adds spice and dusty characteristics. The palate is lush and full, the use of oak is masterfully integrated so as to provide perfect spice without an overshadowing influence.
The 2001 Vintage
An early, warm spring set the stage for one of the quickest flowering and fruit set periods on record. An unexpected, deep frost in late spring caught growers by surprise, followed by heat spikes in May and June. The summer became one of the most beautiful that growers can remember, with warm days and cool mornings, perfect for optimal grape flavor development. Harvest was relaxed with average crop yields.
Food Affinities
This wine brings out the best in full-flavored red meats such as beef and lamb as well as mild game meats. Flavorful dry cheeses will highlight the beautiful fruit in the wine. Oregano, thyme, rich mushrooms and black pepper have proven compatibility.
Our Estate Vineyard
Made from Trefethen’s Hillside and Winery Estate Vineyards located in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley. Here at the southern end of the valley the hillside vines bring intense cherry fruit characteristics while the winery estate vines on the valley floor add plum and berry notes and velvety texture.
About Trefethen
In 1968, our family purchased seven farms surrounding a magnificent, but run-down, 19th-century winery in southern Napa Valley and created Trefethen Family Vineyards. At the time, there were fewer than 30 working wineries in Napa Valley. True to our original vision of creating a classic wine estate, we have never purchased a single outside grape. Instead, we lavish extraordinary care on our two sustainably farmed estate vineyards in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley. Controlling all viticultural practices allows us to produce grapes with pure, intense flavors beautifully reflecting our unique terroir.
