The wine is made exclusively from small-cluster Dijon clones grown in the Vineyard 5 block of Trefethen’s Estate Vineyard, located in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley. The evening fog in this AVA brings cooler nighttime temperatures which preserves the aromatics in the grapes. Rich alluvial soil and a relatively cool climate provide for a long growing season.

The Wine

Inviting aromas of crème brûlée, exotic spices, papaya and guava lead into a velvety palate. Beurre blanc, pear, tropical fruit and mineral flavors are nicely framed by harmonious acidity. Finishes long and clean with a rich, opulent mouthfeel.

The 2003 Vintage

Mother Nature surprised us throughout the year starting with a warm winter bringing nearly a season’s worth of rain before the holidays. The wet, cool spring slowed the vine’s development before a hot summer jump-started them into explosive growth. Harvest was variable with each block reaching maturity at different times.

Food Affinities

To create a symphony for the senses, pair this wine with flavors such as Meyer lemon, basil, Dijon mustard, and goat cheese to complement salmon, scallops, lobster, veal and chicken.

Our Estate Vineyard

Our main ranch vineyard is located in the heart of the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley AVA. The loamy soil and marine influences of cool temperature and humidity provide the characteristics essential for preserving aromatics in the grapes and giving balance to the wine.

Harmony comes from Block 5, where the Chardonnay is naturally the most complex in flavors and aromas. This complexity is enhanced by barrel aging and just the right amount of malolactic fermentation – where winemaking and viticulture create synergy and the resulting wine is elevated by the effect of one upon the other... in Harmony.

About Trefethen

In 1968, our family purchased seven farms surrounding a magnificent, but run-down, 19th-century winery in southern Napa Valley and created Trefethen Family Vineyards. At the time, there were fewer than 30 working wineries in Napa Valley. True to our original vision of creating a classic wine estate, we have never purchased a single outside grape. Instead, we lavish extraordinary care on our two sustainably farmed estate vineyards in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley. Controlling all viticultural practices allows us to produce grapes with pure, intense flavors beautifully reflecting our unique terroir.
