In 2004, Jon Ruel joined Trefethen Vineyards as Director of Viticulture, bringing a background not only in the farming of wine grapes, but in Ecology and Environmental and Evolutionary Biology. Jon earned his undergraduate degree at Dartmouth College, a Masters in Biology at Northern Arizona University, and a Masters in Horticulture and Agronomy at UC Davis.

Jon utilizes cutting-edge, environmentally sustainable farming practices to provide Vineyard and Winery Vice President David Whitehouse Jr. and Winemaker Peter Luthi with the finest possible grapes from our estate vineyards. His passion for science, plant physiology and vineyard eco-systems dovetails perfectly with the Trefethen family's three decades of viticultural experience, ensuring that grape and wine quality at Trefethen will continue to advance.
